Let’s Put a Smile on Beng Hock’s Face
By: Rev. O.Young , Translated by Felix Liew
I don’t know Teoh Beng Hock personally. But ever since news about his untimely death spread far and wide, an inexplicable sense of sorrow and outrage has been welling up inside me. I cannot imagine the level of grief that his family, especially his fiancée, has had to bear. Death may be a brutal reality, but we who are left behind still have the choice of not allowing his death to be in vain.
I have never really believed that Malaysia has any authentic anti-corruption commission ever in existence, much less at this moment of complete hopelessness. Until the MACC has been reshuffled and unless its neutrality is guaranteed, I am never going to put my trust in it ever again. Have they investigated Port Klang state assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros and former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo? Have they even probed the Port Klang Free Zone scandal? What about the many curious rulings coming out of the reading of the Highway Code? What became of the VK Lingam Judiciary scandal? Can anyone tell me if they have thoroughly looked into these cases?
These greater and graver issues went uninvestigated, while seven Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state assemblymen were singled out and probed for alleged misappropriation of allocations. What is more, they were interrogated well into the wee hours of the morning. The racist interrogators even hurled insults at their IQ, barking out “Chinese Stupid!” MACC is nothing but a sick and perverted institution! If its director had even a hint of conscience, he would have stepped down immediately and turned himself in to the investigators!
I find it impossible to believe in the MACC. And it is just as hard to trust the PDRM.
MerdekaReview.com Chinese edition columnist K.M. Wong recently wrote an article disclosing the fact that over 1800 people had died in detention from 2004 to 2008 according to the official statistics (In fact, I expect the number to be higher as I don’t trust the official version). Interestingly, the alleged cause of death always revolves around three things: “Suicide, acute pneumonia or cardiac arrest, and fatal injuries sustained from a fall or having been beaten to death by other suspects.” Wong said outright that “these have been their excuses all along.” “They are simply cases of senseless murder in cold blood!” “Human life is treated lower than dirt!”
Beng Hock’s death came not too long after a theft suspect A. Kugan died in police custody in a shroud of mystery. In the latter’s case, cuts and bruises were found all over his mangled body!
These cases have apparently been swept under the carpet.
That said, how can we still believe in the Malaysian police force? How can anyone remain loyal to the BN government?
It is a wonder how a government which we have elected could actually sit idly by while such incidents keep occurring over and over again, with at least 1800 cases reported over a span of four years! Does the government sit and watch as if they were some unfolding dramas? What is the BN administration really doing? If they still have any moral fiber, let all the ministers in the cabinet immediately join in bitter denunciation of such brutality, or they would be seen as institutionalizing criminal activities, thereby sharing in the guilt of this sick and perverted agency. If only the intellectuals in the ruling party were not so bent on amassing wealth and power! (Yes, I suspect all of you just want to get rich, as I find it almost impossible to trust you people.) If you guys still have a hint of conscience, will you please come forward and make your voice heard?! Stop trying to please the Prime Minister or the president or the chairperson! Stop the power and wealth grabbing! Stop all the dirty ass-kissing and boot-licking!
If all you thinking persons in the corridors of power can do is just keep quiet and maintain a subservient role to a corrupt administration or curry favor with the powerful, we will never again look you in the face. Regardless of your title and position, we will no longer call you a YB. Just wait till the next general election! It will be payback time!
Beng Hock died under a system, a chain of evil institutions. If we don’t rage and speak up, we would become accomplices of Beng Hock’s murderers!
Beng Hock could have been alive today, but our vicious, sub-standard institutions snuffed out his life. If we raise a public outcry now and set in motion a wave of reformation in earnest, the next generation would be spared from the same fate. Millions of parents would be spared the ordeal of grieving over their children. Countless lovers would be spared a broken heart. And Beng Hock would surely smile in heaven!
